Synopsis
2031. Throughout the various countries that make up the continent of Pau-Brasil, commemorations of the 200th anniversary of the Regency Revolts are in full swing, revolutions that occurred after D. Pedro I had left for Portugal and which culminated in the independence of the provinces and the creation of new countries.
Azul, a young documentary filmmaker from the Republic of Bahia, embarks on a journey through the four countries – all of which had previously been states in Northern and Northeastern Brazil – to better understand how they had come into being, their main characteristics as independent nations and, especially, why was it impossible to maintain Brazil’s unity two centuries ago.
Azul, on this historical odyssey, will meet with historians, heads of state, farmers, rural leaders, shamans, hackers and, not but not least, his own family. By the end of his journey, the filmmaker will have to confront what he learned about history and revolution, glory and freedom, with the very concrete insurrection rising up in his own home.
